Phone Fast Fridays #PFF

March 30
|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00am on Friday, repeating until March 30, 2018

The Archdiocese of Hartford is embarking on its second annual phone fast Lenten campaign. Last year, we asked the faithful to abstain from using their cell phones on Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday only.  The campaign was met with such enthusiasm and fervor, especially by our high school students that we decided to expand it to include every Friday during Lent. The mantra of the campaign tells us that: “Silencing our busy phones, will give God a chance to call our hearts.” Lent is a liturgical season of penance that begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2018 and ends when the Sacred Paschal Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the evening of Holy Thursday, this year March 29, 2018.  Lent is designed to help us in our search for a deeper relationship with God through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.  All that we do is directed toward personal conversion of heart, repentance for our sins and the grace to forgive as the Lord has forgiven us.  During Lent we turn to Christ who said: “I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners." (Lk 5:32)
