Our Lady of Sorrows in Hartford Celebrates 125 Years

“Un Dios, Un Pueblo,” meaning “One God, One People” was the theme of the 125th anniversary celebration of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Hartford on Sunday, September 15. Archbishop Henry J. Mansell celebrated the Mass along with Pastor Fr. Brian Sheridan, Parochial Vicar Fr. James Donagher, and other priests from the Missionaries of Our Lady of LaSalette order. The Mass was followed by a parish potluck picnic.

Since its establishment in 1887, Our Lady of Sorrows has been under the pastoral care of the Missionaries of Our Lady of LaSalette. Over the years, they have ministered to a diverse group of people including immigrants from Canada, Europe, and more recently from Central and South America who have made the Parkville section of Hartford their home.

Despite the cultural differences, the one fact that has always remained constant is that “God makes us all one people,” said Fr. Sheridan. Expressing similar sentiments, Fr. Donagher said, “The music we play at Mass celebrations may have changed, and the foods we serve at our picnics may be different, but our parishioners have not changed. They have remained loving and faithful throughout the years.”
