Reverend L. Randall Blackall, Class of 1954, died Thursday, February 13, 2020. We extend our deepest sympathy to Fr. Blackall’s family and friends at this time of sorrow and offer them our prayerful support.
The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair will be the principal celebrant of the Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main Street, West Hartford on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the Mass, a Wake will be held in the church, and his Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Reverend L. Randall Blackall received his early education at St. Joseph’s Cathedral School in Hartford and St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Having completed his college studies at St. Thomas, he attended St. Bernard’s Seminary in Rochester, New York, to undertake philosophy and theology studies and complete his seminary formation. He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend John F. Hackett at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford on May 27, 1954. Fr. Blackall’s early assignments were as an assistant at St. Bernard Church in Sharon, St. Ann Church in Hamden, St. Mary Church in Derby, and St. John the Evangelist Church in New Haven. During those years, he also did ministerial work with the Boy Scouts and the Diocesan Labor Institute. In 1961, Fr. Blackall was named as Director of the Marriage and Family Apostolate of the Archdiocese, a position he would hold for many years. He was assigned to additional pastoral work throughout his priesthood, which included time at St. Thomas Parish in Goshen and St. Timothy Church in West Hartford. He served as well as pastor of St. Bridget Church in Cornwall Bridge and of St. Paul Church in Glastonbury, where he remained until his retirement in 2001.
