Reverend George G. Laliberte, ordained for the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in 1956 and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1980, died Tuesday, February 9, 2021. We extend our deepest sympathy to Fr. Laliberte’s family and friends at this time of loss and offer them our prayerful support.
- The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair will be the principal celebrant at a small, private Mass of Christian Burial at the Chapel of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, 467 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield on Friday, February 19, 2021.
- Burial will follow at Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury.
- A Memorial Mass is being planned by the family for later in the year when more can safely be present.

Reverend George G. Laliberte – Clergy Bio
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Reverend George G. Laliberte attended St. Anne School before engaging in priestly formation with the Blessed Sacrament Fathers at Eymard Seminary in Suffern, New York, the Blessed Sacrament Novitiate in Barre, Massachusetts, and St. Joseph’s Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio. Ordained as a priest of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament by the Most Reverend John Griffith at St. Jean Baptiste Church in New York City on September 22, 1956. Fr. Laliberte was assigned with five others to open a new Eucharistic Shrine in Manila, Philippines, and remained in ministry there at Santa Cruz Church for over a decade. He then worked at Eymard Seminary, serving his religious community as Treasurer and Vocation Recruiter. After a time working again in the Philippines, he next served as Assistant Pastor at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As he concluded his time in New Mexico, Fr. Laliberte felt called to return home to Connecticut and was granted permission by his Provincial and the Most Reverend John F. Whealon in 1977 to do so, beginning ministry as the Assistant at the Church of the Assumption in Manchester. He was officially incardinated into the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1980 and would continue to serve in parishes around the archdiocese, including St. Dominic Church in Southington and St. Mary Church in East Hartford. In 1992, Fr. Laliberte would be assigned to St. Theresa Church in Woodbury, where he would remain until his retirement from active ministry in 2001.
