There is a lot to celebrate within our Catholic schools which offer students an outstanding educational experience infused with developing lifelong faith-filled disciples.

To mark Catholic schools’ successes, the Archdiocese of Hartford will observe National Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 with assemblies, Masses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and the community. To learn more about Catholic schools and Catholic Schools Week events, check your church bulletin for details, visit a school’s website or visit catholicedaohct.org.

Despite the concerns and challenges Catholic schools face today, Catholic schools continue to offer students an outstanding education infused with the richness of our faith and supported by exceptional academics, says Fay Lenz, chairwoman of the Archdiocesan School Board.

“The Archdiocesan School Board expresses gratitude to all of them for working so tirelessly on behalf of the success of Catholic school education,” Lenz says.

Some of the qualities that distinguish our Catholic schools as well as some of the great things happening within them, Lenz says, are: the archdiocese is gifted with many exceptional leaders on both the secondary and elementary school levels, administrative leaders consistently look for new opportunities to be creative and to think outside of the box and many schools are concentrating on the development of a culture of welcome, reaching out to and engaging many diverse groups such as the Hispanic community.

“This has resulted in a higher percentage of minority students in our schools, and an ever-increasing representation of the Hispanic ethnicity,” Lenz says.
