Seeking a highly organized and dedicated individual to join our team as a Sacristan. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and maintenance of our sacred spaces, ensuring that they are always ready for worship and other religious ceremonies. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills and passion to make a difference in our Parish. This part time position (25 hours per week) will be responsible for Sacristan duties at St. Mary, St. Joseph, St. Aedan, St. Martin de Porres, and St. Michael Churches.
Essential Functions:
- Sets up and prepares altar, vestments, and other liturgical items for worship services
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the sacristy and other worship spaces
- Assists with the preparation and maintenance of liturgical objects and vestments
- Coordinates with other liturgical ministers, clergy, and staff to ensure smooth worship services
- Maintains an inventory and orders supplies for Mass, i.e., incense, candles, bread, wine, candles, etc
- Maintains all Parish linens
- Performs set-ups for weddings and funerals
- Attends weekly staff meetings
- Oversees volunteer sacristans at all 5 churches
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Must have a knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic Church’s liturgical tradition as well as current liturgical practices
- Must have knowledge of the Catholic Church calendar
- Ability to work with others in a collaborative style
- Must be flexible and adaptable due to the generalist nature of this position
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
- Willingness to continuously learn and grow in your role
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain the sacredness of worship spaces
- Ability to take direction from clergy and other staff members
Educational Requirements:
- Experience as a Sacristan or in a related role
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant experience
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgical practices and traditions
- Must Complete VIRTUS, Background Check, and CHRO within two weeks of hire
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged standing, walking, and/or sitting
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 50 pounds
- May require occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
- Will work in an office setting utilizing office machines on occasion
- Must have valid driver’s license and own vehicle. This position requires work at multiple Parish locations. Mileage will be reimbursed at current IRS standard rates
