Position Purpose:

  • Provides custodial and light maintenance services for the Sacred Heart Church (SHC) facility and assists at Saint John of the Cross Church as needed. Ensures the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the parish buildings and grounds.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Opens SHC facility each morning (7:30 AM).
  • Performs custodial duties for the entire SHC facility.
  • Assists at Saint John of the Cross Church in Middlebury when necessary.
  • Cleans worship space weekly, after weekend liturgies and in preparation for upcoming services.
  • Maintains hallways, bathrooms, meeting rooms, and kitchens in clean and presentable condition.

Performs routine tasks including:

  • Vacuuming
  • Dusting
  • Mopping
  • Window washing
  • Stocking and cleaning all bathrooms
  • Trash removal
  • Monitors HVAC systems and reports issues.
  • Oversees mechanical equipment, utilities, lighting, security systems, and grounds.
  • Sets up facilities for parish events in coordination with pastoral staff.
  • Collaborates with Buildings and Grounds Committee and Pastor to address maintenance needs.
  • May attend weekend events such as wakes or funerals, providing post-event cleanup and reset.
  • On-call for emergency situations (e.g., alarm response).
  • Assists with groundskeeping and snow removal as needed.
  • Organizes and distributes weekend bulletins.
  • Arranges layout and placement of seasonal prayer materials and parish calendars.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of custodial and light maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Maintenance certifications preferred but not required.

Additional Information:

  • Requires physical work including moving, lifting, pulling or pushing chairs/tables.
  • Requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be willing to be on-call.
