The Vicar General serves as the principal deputy of the Archbishop, assisting him in the governance and day-to-day administration of the Archdiocese. Appointed by the Archbishop, the Vicar General exercises ordinary executive authority throughout the Archdiocese, enabling him to act on the Archbishop’s behalf in most administrative matters as provided by the Code of Canon Law (canons 475–481). In this role, the Vicar General helps ensure that the pastoral mission and policies of the Archbishop are effectively implemented across parishes, schools, and ministries, fostering unity and consistency in the Church’s governance.
As Moderator of the Curia, the Vicar General coordinates the administrative offices and ministries that make up the Archdiocesan Curia—the central body that supports the Archbishop in his pastoral and administrative responsibilities. According to canon 473 §2 of the Code of Canon Law, the Moderator of the Curia oversees the proper functioning of diocesan offices and facilitates communication and collaboration among departments. This ensures that the work of the Curia is carried out efficiently, transparently, and always in service to the faithful of the Archdiocese.
Together, these complementary offices help the Archbishop shepherd the local Church with care and order. The Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia work closely with clergy, religious, and lay staff to support the spiritual and pastoral vitality of the Archdiocese, ensuring that all administrative and ministerial efforts reflect the mission of the Gospel and the unity of the Church.
